Before I had my current job, I was primarily a freelance writer and actor. That meant I had a lot of time at home to peruse the Internet, thinking about dinner (much of the world)/supper (midwesterners and definitely my mother) plans nearly every day. I love to read recipes, backstories, comments and reviews, and I have really missed that leisurely stroll through food blogs in the nearly 10 years since I started at The Arts Partnership. I still am the primary cook (Dr Marry will want me to tell you that’s because I don’t particularly appreciate his style of cooking, which is to throw nearly everything but the kitchen sink…

Some things I am grateful for
I woke up early this morning, but it was already a little bit light out. This is one of my very favorite things about springtime—the coming of longer days. So I laid in bed for a minute and thought about all the little and big things I have come to be grateful for in this uncertain time: A much slower pace. In the morning, for example, Dr Marry and I have time to enjoy a cup of tea because we’re not running out the door to spin class. Multiple daily walks with Dr Marry and our pup Lilly through the neighborhood. Bread baking. Time to think about making lunch and…

Stay present; stay alert
Do we really want to return to all of that? Are we, as highly privileged Americans, really so blind and numb to all that was wrong with before that we will, like lemmings on a cliff, jump right back into what is surely the continuing death of our individual and collective humanity not to mention an enormous amount of the natural world?

Pursuing passion and finding grace in the midst of a global pandemic (podcast & zoom check in)
One of the things I’m working on now that I have some extra time is really trying to be strategic about where I want extraordinaryextraordinary to go next. Doing our part…because we can. And I think you can, too.
I’m taking a break from my shared journey with Dr Marry to bring you this Covid-19, global pandemic-inspired post because, quite frankly, I don’t believe many segments of our communities can wait until we wrap up our series in two weeks for hundreds of lights to be shone on the very real and dire situation that is happening in real time. The short sentence version? Independent restaurants/pubs/cafes and more need our help. And they need it today. So let me share with you what Dr Marry and I did today to address this, only one of the many negative effects related to living through a world-wide shutdown. We bought gift…

Two Voices of Hope: Three Years, and I’m Still Counting My Blessings (7b video)
This week’s conversation is pretty short and sweet, but you will learn a surprising fact about Dr Marry that I bet many of you didn’t know! This is being posted during the midst of the Covid-19 global pandemic. It’s hard to focus on much else while we all watch and wait, seemingly suspended in midair. Actually, that’s just about exactly how I felt in those weeks while Dr Marry was in the hospital and rehab. The news was hardly ever good, and I was left to watch and wait. Wait over my husband as he was fighting this internal battle to survive while appearing externally calm in his medically-induced coma.…
