My first coach Laura Gassner Otting wrote recently:
“We wear busy like a badge of honor, but really, it’s just a shield we use to avoid making hard choices. We’re not too busy—we just haven’t decided what matters enough to fight for. And whenever anyone tells me, ‘I’m too busy,’ I hear them say, ‘It’s simply not that important to me.’
Busy isn’t the same as fulfilled. Busy is just noise. And worse—it’s an excuse. An excuse to avoid the hard, messy, meaningful work of figuring out what actually matters.”
Are you ready to take some time away to get clear about what really matters to you?
Then the October Uninterrupted retreat is the perfect time to say YES!

Uninterrupted: A Retreat to Spark Creativity is valued at more than $2,500!
This retreat is for writers, artists, entrepreneurs, visionaries and anyone craving uninterrupted time to create. Whether you’re starting a new project, reigniting a past passion or simply seeking time to reflect, this retreat is designed to help you step into your creative power.
It’s important to note that there are a number of sessions that are quiet time for participants to work independently. If you are unable to focus for 90 minutes or are extremely uncomfortable in quiet, this may not be the retreat for you.
Creativity isn’t just for artists or writers—it’s for anyone looking to think differently, explore new ideas and reconnect with themselves. If you’re craving a fresh perspective, deeper clarity or time to work on something meaningful, you belong here.
That’s totally okay! This retreat isn’t about pressure—it’s about exploration, inspiration and creative play. Through guided activities and coaching, you’ll have space to discover what excites you and where you want to direct your energy. Also, it’s a great idea to have more than one creative avenue to explore as your mind will want and need to take a break from your primary creative task. And maybe you just want time to read, explore and think creatively. That works, too!
The retreat takes place at a beautiful, rural location in Minnesota, 60 miles from Fargo, ND, carefully selected for its peaceful atmosphere, inspiring setting and comfortable accommodations. The exact address will be shared upon registration.
Creativity/Artistry is almost synonymous with drinking, but I find that when you don’t have the distraction of alcohol, you start your days ready to jump into your creative pursuits. I prefer my energy to go toward whatever I am creating and not toward managing a headache or worse the next morning, and I think you will, too.
Because alcohol is so pervasive in our culture, participants often thank me for just taking alcohol off the menu altogether as it negates their having to manage it themselves.
Plus, I don’t ever want anyone in recovery or who’s choosing not to drink for any reason to worry that they’ll have to explain themselves or won’t be welcome to work with me.
And with the NA drinks I make, you won’t even miss the wine…I promise!
To ensure an intimate, high-quality experience, the retreat is limited to a small group of participants (just you and up to four more people).
Accommodations are comfortable and welcoming, designed to help you rest and recharge. Depending on availability, you may have the option to choose between a private or shared room. More details will be provided upon registration.
Participants can drive or fly into the nearest major airport (Fargo International Airport is about 60 miles away. Minneapolis is an easy 3-hour drive). If needed, we can help coordinate carpooling or transportation options from the airport.
- Comfortable, cozy clothing for both indoor and outdoor movement
- Any creative materials (laptop, journal, art supplies, games, tarot cards, a hoola hoop, etc.)
- A book or anything that inspires you
- Noise cancelling headphones (or regular ones work, too)
- An open mind and a willingness to embrace uninterrupted time
You will receive an invoice after we’ve talked and payment is due in full upon receipt, but you may cancel until September 30th and receive a 75% reimbursement. After that, there will be no reimbursement.

My Story: The Inspiration for Uninterrupted

I know firsthand how transformative a weekend like this can be—because I created them for myself first.
When I struggled to make progress on my memoir, I stepped away from daily life—renting Airbnbs for long weekends, attending a writing retreat and immersing myself in uninterrupted creative time throughout 2024.
The result? I finished my first draft. That never would have happened if I hadn’t physically removed myself from home and its endless distractions.
I knew to do this because, in 2020, I spent two weeks alone in rural North Dakota as an artist-in-residence. Every morning, I began my day standing in a vast soybean field, watching the sunrise, Sparking my creativity in extraordinary ways. Those two weeks were the most creatively productive of my life—not because I worked harder, but because I had no urgent distractions pulling me away.
Hosting my (re)Discover Your Spark retreats has reinforced this: Stepping out of your routine for even a few days gifts your mind the space to focus on what you truly long to create.
Now, as a certified coach, I help others reclaim their creativity by asking clarifying questions, offering insight to energize your mind and guiding you through the mental roadblocks that come with boldly saying, “I am a creative!”
And before all of this? I spent 12+ years leading an arts nonprofit, working daily with artists, creatives and makers. That experience deepened my understanding of how to support and inspire creative people—myself included.
This retreat is a gift of time, space and creative freedom. Are you ready to take it?
As writing coach Allison K Williams wrote recently:
“We all want more time to *write. To explore on the page, to revise, to finish. Another writer tells me, ‘All I want to do is have other things go away so I can focus on my book, and day after day, something comes up.’
Things don’t go away. We have to go away from things.”
If you’re tired of saying, “I’ll get to it someday,” let this weekend be the time you finally do.
*If writing’s not your thing, insert your creative pursuit here.
