Example I
Yesterday, early morning, I was writing my weekly newsletter, and I took the photo above of the two books I read this week. For some reason, I stopped to look at the photo, and I noticed something odd.
The reflection on top was a beautiful pinky-purple, almost impressionistic view of the sky. That made me look out the windows of my sunroom, and this sky was what I saw.
I nearly missed this extraordinary sunrise because I was so busy looking down at my computer. I ran outside to capture the image, both for me and you.
Example II
My mom sent this meme to my brothers and me at the start of September
And she wrote, “In honor of Papa (our step dad who, after a long battle with a terrible kind of cancer, died 10 years ago this upcoming February). This song is the only time he cried. He said, ‘Oh I am going to miss September!'”
The Lesson
Look around, look around at how lucky we are
“That Would Be Enough” Eliza Schuyler Hamilton from Hamilton
To be alive right now
Look around, look around
We think we have all the time in the world, but even a long life is short in the grand scheme of things. Look up. Pay attention. Step away from the grind and enjoy the little gifts we are given. Give thanks, however and to whomever you choose.
